About Matt
Matt lives near Denver, Colorado with his wife Maren and daughters Maegan and Madison. He is an avid golfer (yes he even buys the passport), loves to mountain bike and fly-fish, enjoys hunting (especially with a bow), camping, and anything outdoors with his family.
He co-founded an organization called Missio – A ministry committed to training, developing, and apprenticing missional/incarnational leaders for the church. His role with Missio is directing the MCAP (Missional Church Apprenticeship Practicum) working directly with church planters and existing church pastors as a mentor, coach, and consultant.
He also splits his time and energy with a local movement of missional communities called Adullam, which started as a hobby about 4 years ago when the Halter and Smay families moved to Denver from the Northwest. This church community has grown to become an extended family and leadership development hub.
Hugh and Matt have co-authored of a book called “The Tangible Kingdom“ released in April of 2008 with Jossey-Bass and The Leadership Network Series, The “Tangible Kingdom Primer,” released in April 2009, and there most recent book will be released by Zondervan in conjuction with Leadership Network and The Exponential Series in April 2010 called “And: The Gathered and Scattered Church.”

Thanks for putting pen to paper, or paper to laser jet with the Tangible Kingdom it was an affirming experience for our little group here in Edinburgh to read as the reality you are living is so close to the vision we believe that God has given us.
Matt,
A friend dropped Tangible Kingdom on me earlier this year and it spoke my language. Not replicating, but beginning something uniquely Cincinnati that is communal, missional and (this is the key in our context) clearly gospel as well is challenging to say the least. I love the book, but it can only communicate so much, and I’d love to go to Denver and visit (for more than one reason, you guys live in a great city) but that wouldn’t get at the essence either. So much of this is Spirit initiated, to be sure, but something a friend and I are doing for the church plant we’re at now (and the body at large) in downtown Cincinnati is starting a website for people to hear stories of how God is drawing people to Himself on a personal level. I’d love it if you think there’s someone in your group who’d like to tell their story in order to help other folks grab ahold of what this looks like.
Know that God is using Adullam’s influence to bring the kingdom to North America and I’m grateful for that.
Matt, I let Hugh as well know how much I appreciate your book. I’m a church planter in St. Paul (gallerycovenant.org). My leadership team is reading the book together. I am trying to live out some of the values in your book here: http://www.freebeerifyouhatechurch.com
Thought you’d get a kick out of the site.
Matt,
Just wanted to say that it was good to meet and visit with you a little at the TK table at Verge last week. Very encouraging conference.
